Victorian Charmer

Located in the heart of Jamaica Plain, this 1890 urban farmhouse was inspired by the home’s original stained-glass windows and clients eager to fully immerse themselves in color. Layers of terracotta, yellow, and vibrant blues—each in varying tones—flow throughout the house, creating a richly saturated yet cohesive palette.

Previous owners had opened the back of the home to create a generous kitchen and dining area. We leaned into the home’s historic charm, adding a beadboard chair rail, whimsical wallpaper, updated lighting and faucet, and painted the lower cabinets in a soft, grounding green. Warm textiles, layered rugs, and collected antiques and furnishings were introduced throughout to bring depth and soul to the spaces.

The cozy living room is steeped in color and anchored by custom bookcases designed to showcase the clients’ cherished book collection. In the guest bath, we completed a renovation using warm terracotta zellige tiles in the bath and marble on the floor, adding texture and handcrafted character that feels both timeless and inviting. The three bedrooms in the house, one used as an office, are also steeped in color, reinforcing the home’s joyful aesthetic.
